The Gnomon Workshop has released Creating a Medieval Castle in Unreal Engine 5, a guide to creating realistic environments in the latest version of the industry-standard game engine.
Recorded by former Blizzard Entertainment environment artist Phil Stotz, the four-hour workshop also covers asset creation in Maya, ZBrush and Substance 3D Painter.
Master current industry workflows for creating game environments in Unreal Engine 5
In his training videos, Stoltz reveals how to create a detailed medieval castle environment in Unreal Engine using current industry techniques, taking advantage of the new features in Unreal Engine 5.
This major new version of Epic Games’ industry-standard game engine is currently available in early access.
As well as UE5, Stoltz explores how to use a range of software, including Maya, ZBrush and Substance 3D Painter, in an environment creation pipeline, along with stock assets from the online Megascans library.
The workshop covers the entire process from blocking out a scene to world building and lighting the environment using UE5’s new Lumen system, and demonstrates different environment creation workflows.
Project files available to download with the workshop include Stoltz’s PureRef board, Photoshop concept, Maya and ZBrush files, and the final Unreal scene, excluding the commercial Megascans assets.
